Intended Parent Qualifications
Please continue only if you understand and are prepared for these expectations.
-
For ethical reasons and consistent with the requirements of most U.S. fertility clinics, Choice generally has a maximum Intended Parent age of 55. For couples, if one partner is over age 60, the other partner must be under age 50.
-
Choice requires Intended Parents to have at least one PGT-tested embryo before being matched with a surrogate. Intended Parents may begin their Choice program with one embryo but should be prepared to create additional embryos if the first transfer is unsuccessful.
-
Intended Parents must have a medical or psychological need for surrogacy. This may include a written determination from a licensed physician that the Intended Mother cannot safely carry a pregnancy to term or that doing so could endanger her health or the health of the child.
Medical need may also be supported by prior pregnancy or fertility history, including repeated unsuccessful IVF transfers or miscarriages. A psychological need must be documented by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.
Single men, male couples, and individuals who are biologically unable to carry a pregnancy are presumed to meet this requirement.
-
Choice views surrogacy as a meaningful and personal relationship, not simply a transaction. Intended Parents are expected to maintain contact with their surrogate at least weekly throughout the journey.
Communication may include texting, phone calls, video conversations, ultrasound participation, or in-person visits when possible. Intended Parents must be willing to build a respectful, supportive relationship with their surrogate.
-
Choice performs background checks on all Intended Parents. A history of violent offenses, assault, domestic violence, or incidents involving weapons may be disqualifying.
This requirement helps Choice provide reasonable assurance to our surrogates that the child will be welcomed into a safe and stable home.
-
Early in the journey, Choice will refer Intended Parents to a licensed mental health professional experienced in assisted reproduction for a consultation regarding their psychological readiness to pursue surrogacy.
The professional will provide a letter confirming that the Intended Parents have completed the consultation and are prepared for the journey. This requirement supports the well-being and safety of everyone involved and ensures the documentation is available in advance if required by the court issuing the parentage or birth order.
-
Before booking your consultation, please carefully review the Financial Program section of our website. This section includes detailed questions and answers, along with the estimated program totals.
Please be prepared to ask Trish any questions you may have during your consultation. At a minimum, you should understand the financial commitment involved and be confident that you can afford to pursue surrogacy.
Take The First Step before you begin
Start with reviewing what Choice expects from intended parents participating in our program. Choice Surrogacy works with intended parents who are prepared to participate fully in the medical, psychological, legal, and financial requirements of a surrogacy journey.
